What's coming up....
Friday, December 2, 5-7pm - Join us for First Friday this December with
Artist Julie Greene Graham
and
Vocal Musician Karrie Pavish Anderson w/Alex Culver on the keyboard.
Julie's art theme 'Cycling Through the Seasons' features a melodious combination of adventure, biking, and friends.
Karrie's Cold-Brewed Alaska Soul music is inspired by her natural surroundings, and a deep, rich, and real life.
Saturday, December 3, 1-3pm - Jessica Cherry will be joining us at AK Cycle Chic to sign Wheels on Ice - Stories of Cycling in Alaska. A great gift idea for the winter cyclist(s) on your list.
Wheels on Ice reveals Alaska's key role in bicycling both as a mode of travel and as an endurance sport, as well as its special allure for those seeking the proverbial struggle against nature. This collection opens with the first bicycle boom and the advent of the safety bicycle in the late 1800s, at approximately the same time gold was discovered in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. As bicycles evolved, Alaskans were among the first to innovate: the fatbike, for example, evolved from the mountain bike in the late 1980s into a wider-framed bike with fatter tires, making snow biking more accessible and giving birth to the Iditabike race. Finally, we hear honest and inspiring stories from the ultra-endurance bikepackers to the urban commuters of today.
Jessica Cherry is a geoscientist, writer, and commercial airplane pilot living in Anchorage, Alaska.
